What is Shift? A censorship-resistant blockchain platform that everybody – from network operators, to bloggers – can easily join and use.
To play with this demo, all you need to do is create a personal testnet wallet and load it with free SHIFT testnet tokens. These can be requested on our community Discord or received by visiting the project testnet faucet.

Locking your tokens means you swap them in return for storage space on the Phoenix Cluster, our decentralized storage network. Though locked, the tokens remain yours! They’re simply held in your virtual vault until you unlock them again and return your storage space to the network.
The amount of tokens you need to lock per number of bytes received is displayed using a token/byte ratio. The calculation of these figures is fully automated, dynamic and based on real-time data pulled from the storage platform. You don’t need to participate in a marketplace. The pricing mechanism is efficient, fair, and verifiable!
Unlocking your tokens means you swap your storage space back for your tokens. The locked tokens in your virtual vault will be sent back to your available account balance, while returning your storage space to the network.
The amount of tokens you receive per returned number of bytes depends on the total amount of tokens you have locked and bytes of storage capacity you have assigned.
Please note: the maximum number of bytes you are able to return is equal to the number of bytes that you are not currently using to store your pinned files.

This hash is the ID of your file. Pinning your hash means it is recorded on the blockchain, a digital, public ledger. Once the hash is recorded, the storage network will make sure your file is permanently saved at 3 different storage locations at all times. Access to your file is now unstoppable! Only you can unpin your hash, should you wish to use your storage space for other data or simply unlock your SHIFT tokens.
Please note: pinning your hash will consume 3 times more space in bytes than the size of your file.
You can unpin the hash of your file if you no longer wish the file to be saved permanently on the storage network. Your file will not immediately be deleted. It will remain available until the automated garbage collector of the last storage node that held it has cleared it to make space for new files.
Unpinning a hash will free the number of bytes the file required for its storage, making them available for you to use to save new files or return to the Phoenix Cluster so that you can unlock your tokens.
